MONACA, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto men's basketball team did just enough down the stretch to hold on for the 48-45 win in Penn State University Athletic Conference play.

Inside the Box Score

  • Mont Alto fed John Teague (Hagerstown, Md. / North Hagerstown) in the post and he finished with a game-high 14 points. He just missed out on a double-double grabbing nine rebounds.
  • Cameron Williams (Inwood, W.Va. / Musselman) was perfect from the field shooting 4-of-4 and he also had two steals and four rebounds.
  • PSUMA shot 38.8 percent from the field and attempted a season-low six shots from downtown.
  • Three different student-athletes finished in double figures for Penn State Beaver (9-11, 6-8 PSUAC) including John Foster who scored 12.
  • PSUMA swept the season series and improved to a conference-best 16-3 overall and 12-1 within the PSUAC. The Nittany Lions were ranked No. 4 in the latest USCAA Basketball Coaches Poll.

How it Happened

  • Mont Alto used an early 11-2 run early in the game to build a 15-5 lead with 12:33 to go on a layup by Quintyn Flemister (Harrisburg, Pa. / Harrisburg).
  • It was a defensive struggle for the final 12 minutes of the half with Mont Alto taking the 21-14 lead after another layup. This time it was from John Teague (Hagerstown, Md. / North Hagerstown) as Beaver used a late surge to close the half, but still trailed 21-16 at the halftime break.
  • Flemister extended the Mont Alto lead to 25-18 early into the second half and built its largest lead at 36-26 at the 9:15 mark when John Teague (Hagerstown, Md. / North Hagerstown) knocked down the frontend of his free throws.
  • Penn State Beaver got hot from downtown and took a 41-40 lead with a John Foster layup with under four minutes remaining. Mont Alto tightened up defensively and hit their free throws within the final minute of the game to hold on for the win.

Mont Alto returns home for their next game on Tuesday, February 4 against PSU Hazleton. Game time is slated for 8 p.m. at the Multipurpose Activities Center.
