MONT ALTO, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto men's basketball team ran away from PSU New Kensington on a Stand for State Awareness Night in a 91-66 win Tuesday evening. PSUMA won its 10th straight home game to improve to 19-4 overall and 15-2 within the PSUAC.

Inside the Box Score

  • Mont Alto shot over 50 percent (52.2%) for the fourth time this season, all of which have been double-digit margin victories.
  • It was a balanced scoring effort with John Teague (Hagerstown, Md. / North Hagerstown) leading all PSUMA scorers with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Marcus Roper (Charles Town, W. Va. / Jefferson) knocked down 3-of-6 from downtown for 15 points, while Cameron Williams (Inwood, W.Va. / Musselman) added 12 points, five boards and two steals.
  • Jahi Ogbonna scored 23 points for New Kensington as he connected on a perfect 2-of-2 from 3-point range.

How it Happened

  • Mont Alto came out a bit jaded and found themselves down 2-4 after two minutes. The Nittany Lions began feeding John Teague (Hagerstown, Md. / North Hagerstown) in the post and the team found its rhythm surging ahead to a 17-8 advantage over New Kensington. Coming out of a visitors timeout, Mont Alto continued to pound the ball in the paint and the margin grew to a 30-12 lead after a Cameron Williams (Inwood, W.Va. / Musselman) layup with 8:48 left.
  • PSUMA built a 24-point lead at 39-15, but New Kensington rattled off nine-straight to close the gap to 39-24 after a Jamison Nee layup. On the ensuing possession, Quintyn Flemister (Harrisburg, Pa. / Harrisburg) splashed a 3-pointer that halted the momentum and his team went into halftime leading 46-30.
  • The second half opened with both teams running the floor and Mont Alto added to their halftime lead with another Williams layup, which gave them a 55-37 lead with 16:02 left. PSUMA's advantage steadily grew as they continued to run the floor and held a 75-53 lead with under eight minutes remaining.
  • A highlight down the stretch was a Darrius Bush (Martinsburg, W.Va. / Spring Mills) dunk that was assisted by Flemister that got the crowd on its feet. Mont Alto held on for the 91-66 victory as they swept the season series over New Kensington. Bush also finished in double figures for Mont Alto with 11 points.

Penn State Mont Alto face a tough road test on Saturday when they take on Penn State Wilkes-Barre at 3 p.m.
