Penn State Mont Alto Golf Team Finishes Tied For Second at Hazleton Invitational

Hazleton, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto golf team was back in action Thursday afternoon competing in the PSU Hazleton Invitational at the Valley Country Club. Mont Alto tied for second in a six-team field with 356 strokes as Penn College claimed the team championship with score of 329.

Competing in windy conditions, the Lions were led by senior Owen Groft (Hanover, Pa. / Hanover) who finished the par-72 course with an 82. Sophomore Tom Shearer (Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg Area) carded the next best score of 85.

Rounding up the Mont Alto golfers was Robert Sirk (Waynesboro, Pa. / Waynesboro) who shot a 90 and senior Dayne Conner (Shippensburg, Pa. / Big Spring) who carded a 99.

Penn State Mont Alto will return to action in less than a week when it competes at the Gettysburg Invitational. The golfers will be playing at the Hanover Country Club with a tee time of 12:30 p.m.
