Mont Alto Golf in 10th Place After Day One of the PSUAC/USCAA Championships

State College, Pa. – After Day One of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Golf Championships, Penn State Mont Alto sits in 10th place, while ranking third amongst PSUAC schools. The Lions completed the first 18 holes of the tournament Monday afternoon after a rain delay from the Penn State University's Blue Course.

Mont Alto compiled a four-man team score of 331, which are 33-strokes behind current USCAA Championship leaders Cleary University. Leading the way within the PSUAC Conference Championships is PSU DuBois, who totaled 315 strokes. The PSUAC and USCAA Championships are run simultaneously each year at Penn State main campuses Blue Course.

Leading the way for Mont Alto was Tom Shearer (Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg Area) who is tied for 30th with a round of 78. Sitting one-stroke back and tied for 35th, Owen Groft (Hanover, Pa. / New Oxford) had a solid round of 79.

Freshman Robert Sirk (Waynesboro, Pa. / Waynesboro Area) carded a 13-over round of 85 and senior Dayne Conner (Shippensburg, Pa. / Big Spring) had his best round of the year on the Blue Course finishing with an 89.

The USCAA/PSUAC Championships resume tomorrow morning with a shotgun start scheduled for 9 a.m.
