2020 Freshman Spotlight - Leah Blount

By: Frank Maira, Assistant Director of Athletics/Sports Information Director

MONT ALTO, Pa. - Freshman Spotlight: This Q&A will serve as a get to know you series for our Penn State Mont Alto spring freshman student-athletes.

  1. Why did you choose to attend Penn State Mont Alto?
  • Mont Alto is close to home for me, I have been a lifelong Penn State fan and I'm able to continue playing the sport I love.
  1. If you could change one thing from your first year, what would it be and why?
  • If I could change one thing about my freshman year, it would be my decision not to play on the basketball team. I was worried that being a two-sport athlete would hold me back academically. So maybe next year I'll give it a shot since I'm now pretty acclimated to college environment.
  1. What is your major and why?
  • I am a Physical Therapist Assistant major. I chose this major because both of my aunts are PTAs and I grew up learning about their careers and I decided that I was interested in pursuing that as a career as well.
  1. What has been your favorite course at Mont Alto and why?
  • History 20 has been my favorite course so far. I love history and this class was focused on american history, which is one of my favorite topics in this subject to learn about.
  1. What is your favorite inspirational quote and who said it?
  • "I can't change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination." -Jimmy Dean
  1. What is the hardest part of your sport?
  • The hardest part of softball is the mental game. Physically, you can have all the talent in the world. But in softball, if you aren't mentally prepared or aren't always thinking about where your next move will be, you will rarely succeed.
  1. Name one obstacle or form of adversity you have had to overcome.
  • When I started college, I had to overcome the obstacle of scheduling. I had to make sure to get to class and practice on time and I had to find a way to plan my work schedule around those things too.
  1. What advice do you have for a prospective Mont Alto student-athlete?
  • I would tell any prospective Mont Alto student-athlete to be sure that they are willing to juggle classes for their major, and games and practices for their sport. It won't always be easy, but it is definitely worth it.
