Sas headlines PSUAC softball awards

The Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference announced its softball all-conference teams on Thursday afternoon. McKenna Sas highlighted the Penn State Mont Alto award recipients by being named co-player of the year. On the season, Sas slugged a league-high .856 slugging percentage. Sas appeared in 26 games, homering nine times and driving in 33 runs. Her best performances came on April 15 against Penn State Scranton and on April 16 against Penn State Hazleton, in which she homered twice in each game.

 

 

Sas was also named to the all-conference first team. Joining Sas on the first team was Kirsten Dell. Dell batted .430 during her sophomore campaign, recording 46 hits and driving in 17 runs. She accumulated a 4-3 record in the circle, striking out 37 batters over 64 innings. Dell finished the year with a 5.63 earned run average. 

 

Payton Watkins was named the campus' John Fritz Sportsmanship Award winner. The John Fritz Sportsmanship Award is given to one student-athlete on each sports team that best displays good sportsmanship and demonstrates ethical, appropriate, polite and fair behavior while participating in athletic events and as a member of their team. Watkins appeared in 15 games this season with a .154 batting average and three runs batted in.
