Mont Alto drops to Brandywine in OT

Mont Alto drops to Brandywine in OT

Penn State Mont Alto Women's Basketball team took on Penn State Brandywine (8-0 in the PSUAC) in a mid-week conference game.  The outcome was not in Mont Alto's favor but that doesn't mean they didn't put up a fight.  Brandywine took them into overtime but Mont Alto was unable to regain the lead, losing 82-74.

Going into half, Mont Alto led by one point and the game continued to be close throughout the rest of the game.  Mont Alto had the lead most of the second half but Brandywine was able to sneak back.  With seven seconds remaining in regulation, Brandywine hit a jumper to tie it up and send the game into overtime.

"It was a frustrating loss. We were ahead by six in regulation, missed a couple box outs which allowed Brandywine to convert offensive boards to points, a turnover , then poor defensive positioning that resulted in a foul," Head Coach Donna Davis comments.  "We got behind in overtime, had to foul and Brandywine did a great job hitting their foul shots down the stretch to win the game."

Mont Alto was led by Alexis Small who scored 33 points and had 18 rebounds.  This is her 7th double-double game out of the 10 games that Mont Alto has played.

"She has stepped up the intensity in practice which has elevated the intensity of all the players in practice. She had an amazing performance tonight," said Davis.

Mont Alto also had two other players who scored in double figures.  Kendra Hilbert had 17 points while Helena DeShong added 15 points.

"We are a young team and I'm proud of what we have done so far this season. We need to focus more on recognizing situations as they occur on the floor and adjusting in the flow of the game," Davis adds.

Penn State Mont Alto will continue conference play on Saturday, January 19th at 1:00 p.m. when they travel to Penn State Beaver.
