Women's Basketball drops to Greater Allegheny

Women's Basketball drops to Greater Allegheny

Penn State Mont Alto Women's Basketball team suffered a loss against Penn State Greater Allegheny on Saturday.  The game finished with a score of 76-57 in Greater Allegheny's favor.

Mont Alto was not able to stick with Greater Allegheny's team this weekend.  After having an even start to the game, Greater Allegheny went on a 10-0 run and Mont Alto was not able to catch back up. But they pushed until the end.

Going into halftime down by 13, 27-40, Mont Alto came out stronger in the second half only allowing Greater Allegheny to outscore them by six in last 20 minutes.  But because of a slow first half for Mont Alto, their strong effort in the second half was not enough to gain a lead.

"It was a very frustrating loss for us.  We got behind in the first half allowing Greater Allegheny to convert our 13 turnovers into points. We battled back the second half and at one point closed the gap to single digits but didn't convert from the free throw line to gain the advantage," stated Head Coach Donna Davis.

Many of the Mont Alto players had great offensive games, scoring in double figures.  Alexis Small led the team with 18 points and 14 rebounds, her 10th double-double game this season.  Ayanna Hall added 16 points while Kendra Hilbert had 14 points.

"We discussed all week they are very athletic and bigger than us so we have to focus on boxing out and getting to the free throw line.  We did a great job staying with them in the rebounding category and got to the line but didn't convert on what was mostly 1 and 1."

Penn State Mont Alto Women's Basketball team will play their final game of the season on February 9th at Penn State Wilkes-Barre.
