Women's Basketball brings home another PSUAC win

Women's Basketball brings home another PSUAC win

Mont Alto Women's Basketball traveled to Schuylkill last evening for a competitive PSUAC conference game.  Schuylkill took the lead in the first half but Mont Alto came back and brought home the win, 58-49.

"We came out sluggish and allowed Schuylkill to dictate the pace of the game," Head Coach Paul Lundy comments.   "We didn't take control until the second half when we outscored them 31-17."

Everyone on the roster for Mont Alto contributed both offensively and defensively to secure the win.  Megan Dougherty (Willow Hill, PA/Fannett-Metal) was the leading scorer for Mont Alto with 17 points and five assists during her 38 minutes of play as a guard.  Alicia Detwiler (York, PA/Eastern York) added 10 points for Mont Alto.  Defensively, freshman Alexis Shaffer (Hagerstown, MD/South Hagerstown) grabbed 10 defensive rebounds.

"Megan paced us in the scoring column and kept the game close in the first half with excellent shooting," Coach Lundy adds.  "Schuylkill is a tough place to play and I am proud of the girls for gutting out a tough game.  We need to continue to improve our understanding of pace and tempo of play.  Our recognition of when to push the ball in transition and when to allow the offense to develop is showing improvement and I am excited about that."

Mont Alto Women's Basketball is currently 3-1 in the PSUAC and continuing to be strong team in the conference.  They will face Brandywine on the road, Friday December 13th at 6:00 p.m.
