Women's Basketball drops first PSUAC game to Hazleton

The Mont Alto Women's Basketball team lost their first game in the PSUAC on Saturday against Hazleton.  Mont Alto was within points of catching up to Hazleton at halftime but was unable to gain the lead, losing 87-69.

"We felt that we had a great game plan in place to face a very talented and experienced Hazelton squad," Head Coach Paul Lundy comments.  "We executed well against their press but struggled at times to finish shots.  I thought that we were efficient on offense for most of the game."

Four out of Mont Alto's seven players scored in double digits.  Freshman Megan Dougherty (Willow Hill, PA/Fannett-Metal) took the lead with 14 points and five rebounds.  Brooke Porter (Shippensburg, PA/Shippensburg) and Alexis Shaffer (Hagerstown, MD/South Hagerstown) both recorded 13 points respectively.  Dori Kozain (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) added another 11 points for Mont Alto.

"I was proud of how the girls fought throughout the game.  We lacked in points and some experience but we never lacked heart," Coach Lundy adds.  "Megan was our leading scorer with 14 points.  Brooke and Alexis also chipped in 13 points apiece.  We were glad to get Ashley back into the line-up following two missed games with an ankle injury.  Having Ashley in the game allows us to move everyone back into their more natural position in the back court.  Madison settles us down and keeps the offense humming.  We are much better when she is on the court."

Mont Alto will travel to Schuylkill on December 11th for a 6:00 p.m. game.
