Mont Alto picks up first conference victory, defeating New Kensington 61-52

Penn State Mont Alto used a 15-6 run in the first quarter on its way to a 61-52 win over Penn State New Kensington on Saturday afternoon. Despite shooting 21% from the field in the last quarter, Mont Alto was able to seal the win by shooting 8 of 12 from the free throw line. 

 

Autumn Fischer led all Mont Alto scorers with 11 points and 10 rebounds in 17 minutes of action. Colette Salyers scored nine points and grabbed a team-high 16 rebounds in 34 minutes of action. 

 

Penn State Mont Alto shot 6 of 17 (35%) as Penn State New Kensington went 2 of 11 (18%) in the opening ten minutes. Sarah Vandersleen scored five quick points off the bench in six minutes during the opening quarter.

 

Following a 17-16 advantage in the second quarter, Mont Alto took a 32-22 lead into the locker room. Shanez Morales had six points and five rebounds in the second quarter and Colette Salyers scored seven points and grabbed six rebounds. 

 

Mont Alto had balanced scoring from several contributors on its way to preserving the halftime lead and shot 8 for 12 from the foul line in the final quarter. 

 

Najah Perryman led New Kensington with 21 points, shooting 6 of 23 from the field and 7 of 10 from the free throw line. Destiny Batiste had 14 points, including four three pointers. Shaylynne Boitnott also had 14 points, shooting a perfect 2 of 2 from deep.
