Morales scores 18 as Mont Alto defeats Scranton

Penn State Mont Alto 67, Penn State Scranton 41

 

Shanez Morales had a career-high 18 points to go along with 12 rebounds as Penn State Mont Alto defeated Penn State Scranton 67-41 in PSUAC action on Wednesday evening. Colette Salyers neared a triple-double with 12 points, eight assists and six rebounds. 

 

Penn State Mont Alto started off the first quarter with nine forced turnovers and shooting 9 of 25 from the field. The Mont Alto offense was balanced in the early going with four players scoring four or more points in the game's opening ten minutes. Autumn Fischer led the team with five first quarter points while Colette Salyers, Shanez Morales and Liliana Galloway each chipped in four. Megan Gatto scored seven of her team-leading 23 points in the opening quarter.

 

The Nittany Lions held Scranton to single digits in the second quarter as well to take a 37-16 lead into the break. Salyers provided six points, four rebounds and four assists in the second quarter. Mont Alto (20) was able to muster twice as many shots as Scranton (10) in the quarter behind four offense rebounds. 

 

Following a Jasmine Bender three point basket for Penn State Scranton to cut the lead to 41-21, Mont Alto went on a 12-0 run to push the lead to 53-21. Scranton cut into the Mont Alto lead to make the score 55-29 after three periods of play. 

 

Morales led Mont Alto in the fourth quarter as well with six points as the team's tied the fourth quarter 12-12.
