Salyers grabs 18 rebounds in PSUAC loss to GA

Colette Salyers scored seven points, dished out eight assists and secured a career-high 18 rebounds during Penn State Mont Alto's 78-51 loss to Penn State Greater Allegheny on Tuesday evening. Kyah Rucker (11) and Autumn Fischer (10) led the team in scoring and Aspyn Keetch scored eight off the bench in 17 minutes of action. Lauren Harris led the way for Greater Allegheny, scoring a game-high 26 points on 10 of 21 shooting. 

 

Greater Allegheny raced out to a 6-0 lead in the early going, forcing Mont Alto to take a 30 second timeout. Following the timeout, a 7-0 Mont Alto run ensued with baskets by Salyers, Kiersten Dell and a three-point basket by Kyah Rucker. An Esther Sankoh layup had Greater Allegheny up 17-9 near the end of the first quarter.

 

Mont Alto only got off seven shots in the second quarter compared to 23 shots from the opposition. Greater Allegheny was able to win the turnover battle in the second quarter 11-2. Harris scored 14 of her 26 points in the second quarter, shooting a near perfect 6 of 7 from the field. Mont Alto trailed 41-19 at the break.

 

Aspyn Keetch came off the bench to begin the second half and helped spark the Mont Alto offense, scoring 8 points on 2 of 2 from deep. Mont Alto shot 53% (7 of 13) in the third quarter and limited the Greater Allegheny offense to just 29% (7 of 24) to win the third quarter 21-11. Mont Alto trailed 62-40 after three.

 

Both teams struggled offensively in the fourth quarter, each shooting below 40%.
