Mont Alto Wrestling Goes 3-0 in its Home Duals

MONT ALTO, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto wrestling team hosted its annual Fall Duals on Saturday and went a perfect 3-0 against the University of Maryland (WC), Temple University (WC) and Thaddeus Stevens.

Mont Alto picked up a decisive win 33-21 against Thaddeus Stevens, followed by a 48-17 routing over the University of Maryland (WC) and concluded the meet with a 36-27 victory over Temple.

Against Thaddeus Stevens

Jack Coulston (Carlisle, Pa. / Boiling Springs) put PSUMA up 12-6 after earning a pin within the first round over Isaiah Hunter. Another quick pin occurred when John Halbrendt (Gettysburg, Pa. / Gettysburg Area) beat his opponent in the 157-pound weight class. Freshman Nick Kostyak (Carlisle, Pa. / Boiling Springs) earned the narrow 9-4 decision over Edgardo Carabello at 184. A Colby Mattice (Colonie, N.Y. / Colonie Central) pin in the first round followed up his win.

Against the University of Maryland

Mason Blank (Lancaster, Pa. / Lampeter-Strasburg) earned the first points of the dual with a forfeit win at 125 pounds. It took him just a bit longer, but Jack Coulston (Carlisle, Pa. / Boiling Springs) pinned his opponent this time, Patrick Quinn. Halbrendt put his team up 24-6 with another first round pin, while Colby Mattice (Colonie, N.Y. / Colonie Central) grinded out a technical fall over Andrew Welsh at 197.

Against Temple University

Mont Alto quickly earned a 24-0 lead with Mason Blank (Lancaster, Pa. / Lampeter-Strasburg), Dominick Hyatt (Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg Area), Conner Herron (Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora) and Jack Coulston (Carlisle, Pa. / Boiling Springs) earning wins in their respective weight classes. Temple battled back as their respective wrestlers won at 157, 165 and 174. Nick Kostyak (Carlisle, Pa. / Boiling Springs) beat Sebastian Conway-Phillips that put Mont Alto up 30-16. Eric Wilson (Carlisle, Pa. / Carlisle, Pa. / Boiling Springs) claimed victory at 285 to complete the afternoon and earn the Nittany Lions the 36-27 win.

Mont Alto returns to action on Sunday, November 17 at the McDaniel Terror Duals.
