BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Sophomore Tori Stouffer (Orrstown, Pa. / Cumberland Valley Christian) filled in admirably in goal recording the shutout and Maddie Shirley (Biglerville, Pa. / Biglerville), Katlin Provard (Mont Alto, Pa. / Cumberland Valley Christian), Kara Newell (Shippensburg, Pa. / Shippensburg) as well as Micki McCutcheon (Etters, Pa. / Red Land) accounted for goals with the Penn State Mont Alto women's soccer team defeating PSU Beaver 5-0 on Monday.

Stouffer needed to make two saves to record the clean sheet as the win improved Mont Alto's record to 7-5 and 3-1 within the PSUAC. The Nittany Lions are tied for second with Hazleton within the PSUAC standings as there are two regular season matchups before the playoffs.

PSUMA opened the scoring in the fifth minute as Katlin Provard (Mont Alto, Pa. / Cumberland Valley Christian) slotted the ball past the Beaver goalie on a nice assist by Kara Newell (Shippensburg, Pa. / Shippensburg). Maddie Shirley (Biglerville, Pa. / Biglerville) netted the first of her two goals at the 15:06 mark to put her team up 2-0. Mont Alto took that lead into the halftime break.

It was more of the same for Mont Alto in the second half with the team scoring three more goals within the period including another from Shirley who now has eight goals on the season. Newell netted an unassisted effort in the 48th minute and then the final goal of the game was scored by Micki McCutcheon (Etters, Pa. / Red Land) at the 81st minute. McCutcheon used her left boot to whip her shot to the near post.

The Nittany Lions held a 19-3 advantage in shots over Beaver and were the more dangerous team on set pieces holding the 5-3 advantage.

Mont Alto visits Penn State Schuylkill on Friday, Oct. 11 at 3 p.m. The squad will then play Patrick Henry on Senior Day (Oct. 14) before concluding the regular season on the road at Penn State Hazleton on Saturday, Oct. 19.
