Volleyball Earns First Win of the Season

MONT ALTO, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto women's volleyball team returned to it's home floor on Thursday evening and were victorious over the University of Valley Forge in four sets (21-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-22).

Inside the Box Score

  • Katie Muse (Hagerstown, Md. / Boonsboro) dished out 24 assists and came up with four digs.
  • Freshman Kirstyn Black (Saint Thomas, Pa. / James Buchanan) tallied eight kills on 18 total attacks for a team-best .278 kill percentage.
  • Junior Allison Meyers (Greencastle, Pa. / Greencastle Antrim) had a strong day on defense, leading the team with a season-high 16 digs.
  • The visitors tallied three more kills than Mont Alto (34-31).

How it Happened

  • Mont Alto (1-2) dropped the first set to the visiting Patriots before finishing the match with victories in the next three sets. The Nittany Lions rolled in the second and third sets holding the lead through the majority of both.
  • Valley Forge rallied within the fourth set with three-straight points making things interesting at 24-22, but a receiving error won the match for Mont Alto.
  • The squads will meet again in just over a month when Mont Alto travels to Phoenixville, Pa. on October 12.

Mont Alto opens conference play this weekend with a match against PSU Greater Allegheny on Saturday, September 8. Game time is slated for 2 p.m.
