Mont Alto Pushes Past Valley Forge

PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto volleyball team hit the road for some non-conference action on Friday evening against the University of Valley Forge. The Nittany Lions pushed past the Patriots in a five-set match with PSUMA winning the decisive fifth set.

  • Penn State Mont Alto won 25-23, 20-25, 25-22, 21-25, 15-9

Inside the Box Score

  • Courtney Stump (Greencastle, Pa. / Greencastle Antrim) led the Lions with 16 kills and 33 digs.
  • Katie Muse (Hagerstown, Md. / Boonsboro) also finished with a double-double with 34 assists and 20 digs. The junior setter also collected four service aces.
  • Rachel Manikowski (Mercersburg, Pa. / James Buchanan) ended the evening with 23 digs and 10 kills.

How it Happened

  • Mont Alto and Valley Forge battled in a much more competitive affair compared to their meeting on Sept. 6.
  • The Lions built a one-set lead on two separate occasions as the Patriots battled back in the second and fourth sets.
  • Mont Alto went on an early run in the decisive fifth set that sealed the victory.

The Lions return to conference action on Saturday, October 13 when it hosts Penn State Fayette. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
