MONT ALTO, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-20) conference loss to PSU Fayette on Saturday afternoon on the Lions' home floor.
Inside the Box Score
- Mont Alto (11-10, 4-5 PSUAC) was led in kills by senior Courtney Stump (Greencastle, Pa. / Greencastle Antrim) who finished with 14 to go along with 14 digs.
- The freshman trio of Kirstyn Black (Saint Thomas, Pa. / James Buchanan), Rachel Manikowski (Mercersburg, Pa. / James Buchanan), and Breanne Byers (Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg Area) finished with six kills each.
- Manikowski had a solid afternoon defensively with 15 digs.
- Siteri Tale had an outstanding match for Penn State Fayette (15-7, 5-1 PSUAC) connecting on 16 of her 19 total attacking attempts. She also finished with 15 digs.
How it Happened
- Despite all three of the sets being decided by fewer than six points, Mont Alto was unable to pull off a win against Fayette. In set one, Mont Alto spotted the visitors 10 points as they jumped out to a commanding 15-6 lead. PSUMA fought back late in the set with six unanswered points to put themselves within seven, but a kill won the set for Fayette.
- Fayette commanded the set early in the second game, but Mont Alto didn't let them lead by more than three points until the visitors won a string of points near the end of the set to pull away.
- The Roaring Lions relied a lot upon secondary hitters Kyonte Martin and Madison Knight in the third set, which kept PSUMA off balaence as Fayette held on for the 25-20 win.
The Lions have another quick turnaround, playing its third match in three-straight days tomorrow against Penn State DuBois. The PSUAC matchup is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
