The Penn State Mont Alto cross country team took part in its season opening event on Friday evening as they competed in the 12th Annual Galen Piper Alumni Open/XC Challenge at Shippensburg University under the lights at SU's campus recreation fields. 

Gabriel Brandt led the Penn State Mont Alto male runners, finishing 58th with a time of 22:08 in the 6K. 

Gavin Miller finished 83rd, running 24:36. Gabriel Schubring (25:46) and Kyle Davis (26:19) were close behind Miller finishing 87th and 88th respectively. 

In the women's 4k, Sarah Hipple finished in 65th place with a time of 18:58.

Up Next: The next event for the cross country team is on Mont Alto Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, September 17 at Norlo Park in Fayetteville. Start time is slated for 11 a.m.
