Mont Alto golfers finish second in PSUAC, fifth in USCAA

During a windy, blustery day at the Penn State Blue Course, the Penn State Mont Alto golf team battled some tough conditions to finish second place in the PSUAC and fifth in the USCAA.

Mont Alto's team score of 636 was 30 strokes behind Hazleton's 606 as Hazleton took home the conference title once again.

First Year golfer Ryan Small battled back from shooting a one over on the first day to finishing the second round with a 76, good for fifth overall in the USCAA and second in the PSUAC. Small's finish earned him first team USCAA All-American honors and PSUAC All-Conference.

He would birdie holes 11 and 12 to remain one back of the leaders and gave those strokes back following bogeys on 14, 15 and 17.

All of the Mont Alto golfers finished in the top 55 out of 125 golfers as Hunter Flickinger was next in line with rounds of 84 and 79, good enough for a T-39. Brennan Sease carded an 85 in round two following a 79 on Monday for a T-47. Brogan Beall finished T-50 and Stephen Lucas finished T-55 to round out the team scoring for Mont Alto.

Ben Irr competed as an individual and finished T-47 with a 83 on Tuesday following up a 81 he shot on Monday.

Lyon College took home the 2023 USCAA Team Golf Championship with a team score of 597, just ahead of Hazleton's 606.

During Tuesday's award ceremony, Brogan Beall was named an USCAA Academic All-American.
