Mont Alto Wrestling Racks Up Four More Dual Victories

MONT ALTO, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto wrestling team hosted its Winter Duals on Saturday and posted commanding wins over James Madison (WC), Penn State Fayette, Slippery Rock (WC) and UMBC. 

Mont Alto started its afternoon with a 36-3 win against James Madison University, followed by a 39-17 routing over Slippery Rock (WC), were victorious over UMBC, 41-18 and concluded the meet with a 42-14 victory over Penn State Fayette.  

Against James Madison University

PSUMA picked up forfeit wins in the first three weight classes before Bryce Palamar (Smithsburg, Md. / Williamsport) picked up a 9-3 decision over Ian Saffer. Mont Alto kept rolling with two more close decisions that were decided within the final minute of the third rounds. Ron Schilpp (Severna Park, Md. / Severna Park) picked up the 13-11 win over Recce Benzel, while Nick Kostyak (Carlisle, Pa. / Boiling Springs) earned the 8-6 decision over Luke Mazzeo.

Colby Mattice (Colonie, N.Y. / Colonie Central) also grinded out a 5-1 win over his opponent at 197 pounds.

Against Slippery Rock University (WC)

Conner Herron (Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora) got things started at 133 pounds and pinned Noah Hunkele in 4:55. Two-straight pins were recorded at 157 and 165 pounds with Bryce Palamar (Smithsburg, Md. / Williamsport) and Ron Schilpp (Severna Park, Md. / Severna Park) besting their respective opponents. Kostyak earned the 8-5 decsion over Luke McConaghy to put Mont Alto up 33-0.

Davon Williams (Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg Area) picked up his third pin of the year as bested Colin Kennellu in 51 seconds.

Against University of Maryland-Baltimore County

Two of the best matches of the dual came at 174 and 184 pounds. Nick Kostyak (Carlisle, Pa. / Boiling Springs) dominated Thomas Morey for the 16-0 technical fall and Colby Mattice (Colonie, N.Y. / Colonie Central) pinned Halas Bouh in 2:27.

Penn State Mont Alto improved to 10-5 in their dual meets and will return to action in a week at the MEC Conference Duals in Moorestown, New Jersey.
