Women's Soccer advances to PSUAC Championship

The Penn State Mont Alto women's soccer team clinched its berth in Wednesday's PSUAC Championship game by defeating Penn State Brandywine 9-1 on Sunday afternoon. The team was led by a dominate offensive performance. Avery Diehl and Erika Padilla each tallied four goals, while Stephanie Lewis picked up the other tally. In goal, Jesime Freet stopped four of her five shots on goal faced to pick up her 8th win on the season.

Wednesday's championship contest will be played at Penn State's West Turf Fields. The game is slated to start at 6:30pm and will consist of the top two seeds in the tournament. #2 seeded Penn State Schuylkill will look to knock off top seeded Mont Alto as the teams will meet for third time this season. Mont Alto was able to secure the victory in the other two games by a combined score of 13-1. They went on the road on October 2nd and defeated Schuylkill 5-0, then played them at home three days later in an 8-0 shutout. The offense is as confident as ever heading into the championship contest, recording 40 shots on goal in the semifinal contest. The defense has also played stellar of late, posting a four game shutout streak until giving up a goal to Brandywine's Jess James in the first half Sunday afternoon.
