Women's soccer outlasts Trinity Washington 4-2

MONT ALTO, PA-- In non-conference women's soccer action, Penn State Mont Alto improved to 4-1 overall with a 4-2 win over Trinity Washington. The Lions were paced by goals from Freshman Madison Blyler (Marysville, PA), who chipped in two, Senior Kara Newell (Shippensburg, PA), and Sophomore Nicole Jones (Waynesboro, PA) added a goal apiece. Jones and Sophomore Sydney Trostel (Biglerville, PA) each registered five shots on goal. Senior Jesmine Fleet (Carlisle, PA) was strong in goal, stopping seven of nine attempts. Emily Andino and Kalyn Whiteheart paced Trinity Washington with a goal each. 

The Lions faced early adversity as Kylie Kemp slipped past the backline to put Trinity Washington up 1-0 five minutes into the game. One minute later, Blyler evened up the score with her first of the day. Trinity Washington would retake the lead eight minutes into the contest with a goal by Kalyn Whiteheart. Goals by Newell (13:15) and Blyler (27:34) put Penn State Mont Alto in the lead heading into halftime up 3-2.   

Defense was the name of the game in the second half as a goal by Nicole Jones at the 79' mark gave the Lions a two goal lead at 4-2. Trinity Washington goalkeeper Emily Andino fought through a first-half injury to record 19 saves. 

Penn State Mont Alto will host a PSUAC home game on Wednesday, September 29, at 2:00 pm against Penn State Brandywine.
