Mary Miller enters her sixth season as the head coach of Penn State Mont Alto women's soccer team during the 2023-24 academic year.
Following a 11-2 regular season, the Penn State Mont Alto women's soccer team defeated Penn State Brandywine 9-1 in the conference semifinals. The win marked Miller's first trip the the PSUAC Championship game. The team defeated Penn State Schuylkill 2-0 in the championship game to the school's first conference championship. Grace Banfe, Kara Newell, Erika Padilla and Avery Diehl were all named to the PSUAC 1st Team All-Conference following the season. Jesime Freet and Nicole Jones were named Honorable Mentions. By winning the PSUAC tournament, the team earned a spot in the USCAA National Tournament. The team went 0-2 in the National Tournament.
Grace Banfe, Nicole Jones, Erika Padilla and Sydney Trostel were named USCAA All-Americans following the season in 2021. Courtney Buckley, Madison Bishop, Lacey Daum, Avery Diehl, Nicole Jones, Erika Padilla and Sydney Trostel earned USCAA Academic All-American honors for their work in the classroom.
Miller's coaching experience goes back to 2008 where she served as the assistant coach at her alma mater Wilson College. She assisted the team for four seasons before transitioning to her role as head coach of the girls' varsity program at Shippensburg High School. She gained experience in developing and arranging competition schedules, maintaining her team's performance, as well as planning and executing fundraising opportunities.
Coach Miller has received various coaching certifications from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Those include a NSCAA National "C" License and goalkeeping level one and two diplomas.
In addition to her role as the head women's soccer coach, Miller will continue to oversee the women's basketball program at Mont Alto as she is currently in the midst of her fourth season at the helm.
Miller received her bachelor's degree in exercise and sports science from Wilson College and a master's degree in sport management through the American Military University. Miller currently resides in Shippensburg, Pa.
