Mont Alto wins second consecutive Chancellor's Cup

Mont Alto wins second consecutive Chancellor's Cup

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - For the second straight year, Penn State Mont Alto ran away with the PSUAC Chancellor's Cup and earns the crown of the top department in the conference for 2024-2025. The Cup, which measures comprehensive excellence, awards points to campuses based on their finish in PSUAC-sponsored sports.

Mont Alto won three PSUAC titles during the 2024-25 academic year and finished second in three more. Titles came in each of the three seasons, with the Mont Alto golf team winning a fall championship, men's basketball earning one in the winter and baseball most recently celebrating their second spring championship since 2022. Additionally, Mont Alto finished second in women's soccer, softball and volleyball, with its women's basketball team also making a postseason appearance.

No other campus won more than one PSUAC Championship in 2024-25, with runner-up Penn State Schuylkill capturing one (women's soccer), Penn State DuBois winning the softball championship and Penn State Beaver taking women's basketball. Penn State Hazleton won volleyball to round out our women's champions. On the men's side, Penn State Lehigh Valley was the only campus other than Mont Alto to win a men's title, capturing the men's soccer crown for the first time in program history.

Mont Alto finished with a total of 68.0 points, 14 more than Schuylkill, its closest competitor. Penn State York finished third at 48.5 points, including a runner-up finish in golf. Every York program made the postseason, with men's soccer and women's basketball each being knocked out in the semifinals of their respective tournaments. York was the only department to have all of its programs reach the postseason.

Penn State New Kensington and DuBois round out the top five, with 41.0 and 40.0 points, respectively. DuBois' softball championship was its first in program history, while New Kensington earns its highest finish in several years.

The Chancellor's Cup awards points in descending order in each sport, with the champion receiving the most points. Sports that earn points include golf, men's and women's soccer and volleyball in the fall; men's and women's basketball in the winter; and baseball and softball in the spring season.
