Mont Alto wins one, Penn College wins one

Penn State Mont Alto Baseball split with Penn College on Thursday.  Taking the first win of the doubleheader, Mont Alto's Derek Coy (Shippensburg, PA/Shippensburg) came out strong on the mound.  Coy, with the win, threw for seven innings, allowing only six hits, walking three and striking out four.  Short stop Trevor Ile (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim) went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and an RBI.  Nathan Topper (Littlestown, PA/Littlestown) also had two hits, one RBI and scored for Mont Alto. 

 

 

The second game was tied 2-2 going into the second; Mont Alto took the lead into the third and through the fourth.  Penn College came back, scoring three runs in the fifth and three in the seventh.  Mont Alto was not able to get the runs home, with Penn College taking the win, 8-3.  Ile and Daniel Cordell (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim) had back-to-back triples for the Lions.  Freshman Travis Barthalow (Chambersburg, PA/Heritage) went deep for his first homerun of his collegiate career.  Freshman Cody Casey (Carlisle, PA/Big Spring) was 3-for-4.  On defense, Brandon Dupert (Landisburg, PA/West Perry) started the game off pitching the first six innings, walking two, striking out six, allowing six runs off of eight hits.  Zachary Fegley (Gardeners, PA/West York) came in to relieve Dupert, pitching one inning and allowing five earned runs. 

 

Mont Alto hosts Brandywine on Monday at home for a 2:00 p.m. double header.
