Lions Drop Non-Conference Affair to McDaniel College

By: Frank Maira, Assistant Director of Athletics/Sports Information Director

Westminster, Md. – Having not played in 16 days, the Penn State Mont Alto baseball team was unsurprisingly rusty on Wednesday afternoon as it dropped a 16-1 decision to McDaniel College in non-conference action. McDaniel scored in each of the first four innings and were helped out by four fielding errors by the Lions.

McDaniel's Antonio Rosanova led off the bottom of the first inning with a double before an error on a sacrifice attempt allowed him to score for a 1-0 lead. The Green Terror added three more runs in the second on an error on a squeeze play and a two-RBI triple off the bat of Rosanova that made it a 4-0 game.

A walk and back-to-back doubles from Chris Morris and Tim Griest along with a sacrifice fly stretched the lead to 6-0 after the third inning. McDaniel (5-8) didn't let off in the bottom of the fourth either as it added five more runs to stretch its lead to 11-0.

The Lions broke up the shutout in the sixth when an error, stolen base, Tyler Martin single and Tanner Rhoads RBI groundout made it 11-1.

A pair of errors in the eighth inning allowed The Green Terror to push across five more runs to set the final margin.

Joel Clabaugh (0-1) took the loss on the mound giving up 10 runs (eight earned) on 10 hits across three innings of work for Penn State Mont Alto. Brady Topper led the Lions hitters with a single and two walks.

Penn State Mont Alto (2-10) returns to action at home against Dickinson College on Thursday, March 23. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
