Mont Alto, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto baseball team combined for a season-high 13 hits, but PSU Beaver outslugged them enroute to an 11-6 victory. Penn State Mont Alto falls to 2-13-1 overall and 0-2 in the PSUAC.

PSU Beaver opened the scoring in the top of the first inning, but Mont Alto quickly answered in the bottom half of the frame. Matt Taylor and Tyler Martin began the inning with consecutive singles and Taylor scored from second base on a Jeremiah Younker liner to right centerfield. The Lions made it 2-1 a batter later when Lowell Singer hit a deep sacrifice fly to leftfield, which scored Martin.

Both teams were scoreless in the second inning, but PSU Beaver took the lead scoring five combined runs in the third and fourth innings. Trailing 6-2, Mont Alto pushed across a run in the bottom half of the fourth on a Cory Chatfield RBI infield single. Penn State Beaver's offense didn't let up in the fifth inning either as it added another three runs building a 9-3 lead, which chased Lions starting pitcher Spencer Meyers from the game.

Penn State Mont Alto rallied for two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning cutting the deficit to five runs with the score being 9-5.  Tyler Martin led off with a single right back up the middle and scored a batter later on a Jeremiah Younker double. Younker received a courtesy pitch-runner in Brady Swartz, and Swartz scored on a Brady Topper fielder's choice.

Penn State Beaver stopped all thoughts of a rally adding insurance runs in the sixth and ninth innings. Mont Alto's final tally of the afternoon occurred in the eighth when the Lions successfully ran a double steal play that plated Brady Topper.

Jeremiah Younker paced the offensive attack for Mont Alto as he went 3-for-4 including two RBI's. Joel Clabaugh, Brady Topper and Tyler Martin also had multi-hit games for the Lions.

PSU Mont Alto returns to action tomorrow April 3 when it travels to Hardford Community College for a non-conference contest. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
