By: Frank Maira, Assistant Director of Athletics/Sports Information Director

MONT ALTO, Pa. – For the first time during his three-year career, Penn State Mont Alto junior Lowell Singer (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) was selected as pitcher of the week by the Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) and the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).

Singer earned his first victory of the season in a complete game against Central Penn College on Saturday, March 17. The junior right hander allowed just one earned run, walked three, and struck out a season-high nine batters.

In four starts this season, Singer owns a 1-2 record with 22 strikeouts and a 3.52 ERA in 23.0 innings on the mound. His 22 strikeouts ranks first in the PSUAC and his ERA fifth within the conference.

Mont Alto's road non-conference game scheduled for Wednesday against McDaniel has been postponed until April 18 because of the winter weather. The Nittnay Lions are tentatively slated to return to action on Saturday in a home doubleheader with Penn State Beaver at 2 p.m.
