Mont Alto Baseball Plates Winning Run in Extras to Split Doubleheader with DuBois

MONT ALTO, Pa. - The Penn State Mont Alto baseball team loaded the bases up in the bottom of the ninth inning in the nightcap of Sunday's doubleheader and Dan Brundage (Milroy, Pa. / Oxford Area) drew a walk with the Nittany Lions winning 4-3. PSU DuBois played fundamental ball in the first game and handed Mont Alto its first loss of the season. 

Penn State DuBois 8, Penn State Mont Alto 4 (F)

  • Brandon Osrich earned the win for DuBois lasting six innings, while striking out five Mont Alto batters. The right hander gave up his first earned runs of the season allowing three on six hits.

  • Both teams went back and forth scoring a run a piece in both the first and second innings. DuBois went on to score again in the fifth inning before breaking the game open in the top of the seventh frame to build its 8-4 advantage. They quickly loaded the bases up before plating four runs including a Trevor Hanna RBI single.

  • Chance McClure (Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg Area) had a solid afternoon at the dish going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Joseph Wunsch (Dover, Del. / Dover Area) slashed an RBI single in the second inning.

Penn State Mont Alto 4, Penn State DuBois 3 (F-9)

  • Freshman Zach Garlin (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) was nearly unhittable on the mound striking out a career-high nine batters and scattered just two hits across six innings of work. He allowed just one run as the other was plated on a passed ball.

  • After trailing 1-0, Mont Alto saw an RBI gap shot off the bat of Hayden Kissel (Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg Area) to tie the game and Jarrett Goodyear (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) put his team up 2-1.The score remained the same until the visitors tied it back up in the fifth as game went into extra innings.

  • Both teams each scored a run in the eighth inning. Tyler Moreland (Spring Mills, W.Va. / Spring Mills) came up with a clutch single as a pinch hitter and Owen McCleaf (Waynesboro, Pa. / Waynesboro Area) tied it up at 3-3 driving the run in on a fielder's choice.

  • Hayden Kissel (Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg Area) pitched a scoreless top of the ninth and Brundage drew a bases loaded walk for the Nittany Lions. Mont Alto improved to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in PSUAC West action.

PSUMA returns to action on Saturday, March 27 hosting Penn State Fayette for another home doubleheader.
