UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State Mont Alto's Zach Garlin (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) was named the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) Baseball Pitcher of the Week and teammate Chance McClure (Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg Area) Hitter of the Week as they swept the baseball awards this week as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

Penn State Mont Alto is off to a 5-1 overall start and are 3-1 in the PSUAC West. Freshman Zach Garlin (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) has quickly established himself in the Mont Alto pitching rotation and he made two appearances this past week racking up 12 strikeouts along the way. He was nearly unhittable on the mound in Sunday's start against DuBois striking out a career-high nine batters, while scattering just two hits across six innings of work.

McClure has been a staple atop the Mont Alto's batting lineup these past few seasons and he is off to a hot start to the 2021 season. He went up against outstanding pitching this weekend against PSU DuBois. Against returning PSUAC Pitcher of the Year, Brandon Osrich he put together a 2-for-3 performance with a double and two RBIs. Overall, for the week McClure slashed .533 with two doubles and three RBIs.

Mont Alto returns to action on Saturday, March 27 when it hosts Penn State Fayette for a home doubleheader.
