MONT ALTO, Pa. - The Penn State Mont Alto baseball team dropped a 6-1 contest to PSU Greater Allegheny before prevailing in the second game of the doubleheader as it was the Zach Garlin (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) show striking out a career-high 10 batters in the 3-2 victory. With Saturday's split, Mont Alto improved to 22-3 overall, which is the most wins the program has had since the 2019 season.

Penn State Greater Allegheny 6, Penn State Mont Alto 1 (F-7)

  • PSUGA scored first in the top of the second inning when Brett Yuhas sent a sacrifice fly to left field. The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the third inning when Hayden Kissell (Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg Area) hit an RBI single to center field.
  • The score remained 1-1 before PSU Greater Allegheny had a five run top of the sixth frame. They were assisted by two PSUMA errors within the inning as they forced starter Matt Huston (McConnellsburg, Pa. / McConnellsburg) out of the game after Brian Woods connected on a grand slam.
  • Jared Pine (Mercersburg, Pa. / James Buchanan) had a nice performance finishing 2-for-3 with a stolen base.

Penn State Mont Alto 3, Penn State Greater Allegheny 2 (F-7)

  • Not only did Zach Garlin (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) punchout 10 PSUGA batters, but he also carried a perfect game into the seventh inning. A one-out single broke up perfection and Brett Yuhas drove in two runs with a gap single to right field.
  • The Mont Alto offence churned out the first run of the game with a no-doubt solo homer off the bat of Jarrett Goodyear (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) in the bottom of the second.
  • Tyler Moreland (Spring Mills, W.Va. / Spring Mills) who finished 2-for-2 crushed an RBI triple to right centerfield and scored a few pitches later on a passed ball as Mont Alto held on for the 3-2 win.

Prior to the doubleheader, the Mont Alto baseball program honored its three seniors Joseph Wunsch (Dover, Del. / Dover Area), Alberto Fabian (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic / KCAPA) and Ethan Slusser (Hanover, Pa. / Delone Catholic) for their outstanding accomplishments both in the classroom and on the diamond.
