Mont Alto Baseball to Play PSU DuBois on Tuesday for PSUAC Championship

MONT ALTO, Pa. - The Penn State Mont Alto baseball team were four outs away from being crowned PSUAC Champions on Monday after beating PSU Brandywine 7-2 in the semifinals before falling to Penn State DuBois by a 7-4 score.
 
Penn State Mont Alto 7, Penn State Brandywine 2 (F)
  • Matt Huston (McConnellsburg, Pa. / McConnellsburg) turned in a quality start on the pitching mound allowing just one earned run in five innings of work. The junior right hander struck out four Brandywine hitters in the win. Darian Mort (Fairfield, Pa. / Fairfield Area) came in his relief and was dominant striking out three in his two innings of work.
  • PSUMA plated the opening run on a double steal with Jared Pine (Mercersburg, Pa. / James Buchanan) crossing home plate. Tyler Moreland (Spring Mills, W.Va. / Spring Mills) made it 2-0 when he grounded into a fielder's choice.
  • Brandywine scored a run in the top of fourth frame on an error, but Mont Alto responded nicely winning the inning with four runs of their own in the bottom of the frame. Pine scored another run, Aaron Stremmel (Biglerville, Pa. / Homeschool) scored on a Dan Nearey balk and Jared Pine (Mercersburg, Pa. / James Buchanan) hit an RBI triple in the bottom of the fifth inning to put Mont Alto up 5-1.
  • The final run against Brandywine was scored by Hayden Kissel (Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg Area) who was driven in by Brady Bigler (Saint Thomas, Pa. / James Buchanan) for the 6-2 final. 
  • Pine had a solid semifinal finishing 2-for-3 scoring two runs and driving in another.
Penn State DuBois 7, Penn State Mont Alto 4 (F)
  • DuBois forced Mont Alto into a do-or-die championship coming out of the loser's bracket to force the double elimination game on Tuesday. 
  • Mont Alto quickly established themselves with a 3-1 lead, which forced DuBois starter Toner Corl out of the game. Michael Scott (Accokeek, Md. / Bishop McNamara) slashed an RBI single and Joseph Wunsch (Dover, Del. / Dover Area) legged out an RBI infield single in the bottom of the fourth frame.
  • PSUMA tallied another run in the fifth frame with an RBI gap shot off the bat of Tyler Moreland (Spring Mills, W.Va. / Spring Mills).
  • The wheels fell off for Mont Alto in the sixth inning with DuBois exploding for six unanswered runs to force the second championship game.
Penn State Mont Alto will face off against PSU DuBois again tomorrow in the final PSUAC Championship game at 10:30 a.m.
