Garlin earns West Division Pitcher of the Year, eight others earn PSUAC honors

The Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference released its all-conference teams on Thursday afternoon. Pitcher Zach Garlin headlined the nine award winners with his second straight West Division Pitcher of the Year award. On the season, Garlin is 5-3 with 73 strikeouts in 51 innings. His strikeout total is best in the league while his win total ranks third currently amongst conference leaders.

Garlin joins Jared Pine, Matt Huston, Hayden Kissel and Brady Bigler as first team all-conference representatives. Trystan Housman, Jonathan Lentvorsky and Tyler Moreland received honorable mention. Aaron Stremmel won the campus' John Fritz Sportsmanship Award. The John Fritz Sportsmanship Award is given to one student-athlete on each sports team that best displays good sportsmanship and demonstrates ethical, appropriate, polite and fair behavior while participating in athletic events and as a member of their team.

 

Jared Pine is currently batting .423 with two home runs and 23 runs batted in. He has also stolen 22 bases. Pine's average ranks fourth in the conference and his stolen base numbers are currently second overall.

Matt Huston has been a reliable starter all season. He is currently a perfect 4-0 with 23 strikeouts in 29.1 innings pitched. His best performance this season came against Penn State New Kensington on April 10, striking out eight in seven innings.

 

Hayden Kissel is batting .306 with one home run and 22 runs batted in. His season high in hits is four against Clarks Summit University early in the season. Kissel has a .979 fielding percentage at second base.

Brady Bigler is batting .324 with 24 runs batted in and 17 steals on the season. He was named the PSUAC hitter of the week weeks weeks ago following a 6 for 9 weekend including a walk-off hit against Penn State Greater Allegheny.

Trystan Housman is 3-2 with 37 strikeouts in 39.1 innings pitched. His 2.75 earned run average currenly sits third best among qualified pitchers. His best outing came against Apprentice in which he struck out seven batters in 3.1 innings pitched.

 

Jonathan Lentvorsky is batting .324 with one home run and 14 runs batted in. His season-high in hits came against Clarks Summit University on March 16 in which he went 3 for 3.

 

Tyler Moreland is batting .308 with one home run and 19 runs batted in. On the mound, he has been a viable closer for Penn State Mont Alto. He has one win, one save and struck out eight batters over 7.2 innings pitched. 

 

Aaron Stremmel has appeared in 12 games this season, batting .375 with two runs batted in and three runs scored.

 

Penn State Mont Alto heads to Showers Field in DuBois, Pennsylvania on Sunday for a conference tournament elimination game. They will take on Penn State Schuylkill at 11 a.m.
