Penn State Mont Alto 3, D'Youville University 1

Game Story

Penn State Mont Alto started its 2022 Small College World Series journey a little later than expected on Monday afternoon following a rain delay earlier in the day. The 3-seeded Lions took on 6-seeded D'Youville in quarterfinal action from Showers Field in DuBois, Pa. Penn State Mont Alto starter Zach Garlin went 6.1 innings, striking out nine batters and allowing six hits. D'Youville got on the board first on a George Farid RBI single in the top of the third inning. Penn State Mont Alto quickly responded to tie the game on a Tyler Moreland RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning. Darian Mort scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth inning on an error by D'Youville pitcher Samuel Worthen. Jonathan Lentvorsky plated Jared Pine later in the inning, providing the insurance run and pushing the Penn State Mont Alto lead to 3-1 after five complete.

D'Youville made things interesting in the top of the seventh inning. Craig Oliver led off the inning with a single to right field. Following a strikeout of pinch hitter Caden Strobel, Evan Reimann singled and put two guys on the bases for the Saints. With two guys on, Penn State Mont Alto head coach Shawn Kissel went to his bullpen. Trystan Housman came in and got the final two outs to preserve the lead and earned his first save of the season.
