Mont Alto drops twinbill to Brandywine

Game One: Penn State Brandywine 3, Penn State Mont Alto 2

 

In game one at Maple Zone, Penn State Mont Alto could only squander four hits as Dan Nearey was the winning pitcher for Brandywine, pitching four strong innings. Jared Pine, Tyler Moreland, Connor Orner and Jarrett Goodyear each had a hit for Mont Alto in the first game.

 

Scoring Plays:

-Jared Pine singled up the middle to leadoff the top half of the first for Penn State Mont Alto, Kyle McKeon followed that with a walk to put two runners on. Later in the top half of the first, Jarrett Goodyear recorded a RBI as he singled through the right side, scoring McKeon. 

 

-Penn State Brandywine retook the lead in the bottom half of the first inning as Shawn Webb singled through the left side, plating Lamar Thomas and Nick Wright. 

 

-Both teams went scoreless through the next four innings until Brandywine added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. Jalen Bryant doubled to left center to put Brandywine up 3-1 with one inning left. 

 

-Mont Alto didn't quit as Tyler Moreland singled to right field, scoring Pine. The comeback fell short as Brandywine took game one 3-2.

Game Two: Penn State Brandywine 4, Penn State Mont Alto 3

 

Connor Thompson picked up his first win of the season for Penn State Brandywine as he struck out six batters in six innings of work to help Brandywine earn a sweep of Mont Alto. 

 

Scoring Plays:

-Mont Alto led 3-0 after two innings capped off by a Jared Pine double to left field, plating Brady Bigler and Kyle Nolan.

 

-Brandywine tied the score up an inning later when they scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning. Mike DeGirolamo scored two on his single to left field to trim the lead to 3-2. He would score a batter later when Shawn Webb doubled down the left field line.

 

-Brandywine added the winning run in the bottom of the 5th inning as DeGirolamo hit a RBI double down the left field line. Michael Govan picked up his first save on the season as he struck out two in his inning of work.
