Nittany Lions earn sweep over Knights

Game One: Penn State Mont Alto 4, Southern Virginia 1

 

Trystan Housman tossed a complete game five hitter with five strikeouts during game one of the set with Southern Virginia on Saturday. Kyle McKeon, Gavin Kissel and Brady Bigler each added two hits during the winning effort.

 

Scoring Summary:

-Matthew Boyer recorded the first RBI of the game as he plated Gavin Kissel in the top of the second.

-Kissel reached base via walk in the fourth inning, then stole second to wind up in scoring position. With two outs in the top of the fourth, Brady Bigler ripped a triple to score Kissel. 

-David Hundley put Southern Virginia in the scoring column the following half inning on his RBI single as the Knights trailed 2-1 after four.

-Connor Orner capitalized on a Kyle McKeon leadoff walk in the top of the fifth, scoring McKeon to put Mont Alto on top 3-1.

-Brady Bigler doubled with two outs in the top of the sixth, he scored on the next batter as Jared Pine recorded an RBI single to give Mont Alto a 4-1 advantage.

Game Two: Penn State Mont Alto 13, Southern Virginia 3

Elijah Synder earned the start in game two for the Nittany Lions, pitching four innings and giving up just four hits. Brady Bigler led Mont Alto with a team-high five runs batted in.

 

Scoring Summary:

-Mont Alto did a lot of damage with two outs in the second inning of game two on Saturday as they compiled six runs on three hits. Nate Smith recorded a double, Caiden Smith singled and Jared Pine hit a two run home run to cap off a six run second.

-Stockton Hall would get one run back in the bottom half of the second inning on his RBI single.

-Mont Alto tacked on three more runs in the top of the third inning as Tyler Koser got the scoring started with a sacrifice fly to right field. Brady Bigler recorded a two RBI base hit on the following batter.

-Tyler Koser scored a RBI single in the top of the fifth inning, plating Zane Mack who walked earlier in the inning.

-Benjamin Horsley homered in the bottom of the sixth for the Knights to trim the deficit to 10-2.

-Mont Alto added three insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning behind two hits and one error. Stockton Hall recorded an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh as the comeback effort fell short.
