Mont Alto takes two from SMCC

Game One: Penn State Mont Alto 9, Southern Maine C.C. 6

Tyler Koser started game one of the non-conference doubleheader on Friday afternoon against Southern Maine C.C., going five innings while striking out seven batters. Luke Davis earned the win in relief, tossing two innings and striking out three. 

 

The first inning saw seven combined runs as Southern Maine C.C. scored three in their top half of the first inning. Ryan Thurber cleared the bases on a double to the right center field gap. Penn State Mont Alto quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning, scoring four runs on four hits. Jarrett Goodyear had the big hit of the inning, a double down the left field line, plating Brady Bigler and Jared Pine.

 

Goodyear later homered in the third inning to push the Mont Alto lead to 5-3. Southern Maine regained the lead following a combined three runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Sam Keblinsky plated two on his single in the top of the fifth to tie the game at 5-5. 

 

Down 6-5 in the sixth inning, Caiden Smith scored Kyle McKeon on his sacrifice fly to tie the game at 6-6. Michael Scott plated two on a double down the right field line. Tyler Moreland reached via error a batter later as Mont Alto led 9-6 after six innings.

Game Two: Penn State Mont Alto 10, Southern Maine C.C. 7

Trystan Housman got the start in game two for Penn State Mont Alto, tossing five innings while striking out seven batters and earning his third win on the season. Southern Maine came back from a 6-1 deficit to tie the second game at 6-6 before Penn State Mont Alto scored four of the last five runs of the game.

 

Dylan Sellinger put Southern Maine C.C. on the board early in the top of the first inning with his RBI single. Mont Alto responded in the bottom half on his RBI single through the right side.

 

Mont Alto put five on the board in the bottom of the second inning, capped off by a Connor Orner 2 RBI single to left field. Southern Maine C.C. would answer with two big hits by Dylan Sellinger in the third and fourth innings as he plated five RBI's during those innings as the score was tied 6-6 after three and a half innings. Wild pitches allowed Mont Alto to cross two runners in the bottom of the fourth as they led 8-6 after four innings of play. 

 

Brady Bigler provided some insurance in the bottom of the fifth inning on a two RBI home run to left center field, scoring Kyle McKeon.

 

Sellinger recorded his fourth hit on the day in the top of the seventh as he scored Justin Colon, but their comeback effort fell short as Brady Bigler pitched two innings in relief and earned his first save of the season.
