Scott's walkoff hit clinches sweep of Southern Maine C.C.

Penn State Mont Alto battled back from a late 5-4 deficit in the finale of a three game set versus Southern Maine C.C. on Saturday afternoon to take the third game by a final of 6-5. Jared Pine scored on a balk in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game at 5-5 and Michael Scott provided the winning hit in the bottom of the ninth in walkoff fashion. Pine singled to right field to get the bottom of the ninth inning started for the Nittany Lions. 

 

Pine would quickly get into scoring position with his USCAA leading 17th stolen base on the season. After Brady Bigler reached on an error during the following at-bat, Scott ended the game on his game-winning hit to right field. 

 

Caleb Cawthern earned his second win on the season as he went three innings in relief and allowed only two hits. 

 

Pine got the scoring started after two scoreless innings on his RBI single in the bottom of the third inning. The visitors quickly responded on a Michael O'Brien RBI single to left field. Caiden Smith took a Liam Jann offering deep to right field in the bottom of the fourth to push Mont Alto on top 2-1. The two teams matched each other with two runs each in the sixth and one run in the seventh inning.
