Baseball extends win streak to ten games

Game One: Penn State Mont Alto 3, Penn State Greater Allegheny 2

 

Zach Garlin went the distance in game one of the doubleheader against Penn State Greater Allegheny, striking out three and allowing one earned run. Penn State Mont Alto did all of its damage in the bottom of the third, building a three run lead. Nathanial Smith singled to right center, scoring Caiden Smith and Blake Orndorff to push Mont Alto up 2-0. Braden Zeger followed that up with a RBI single, scoring Michael Scott. Brian Woods scored on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth as Greater Allegheny was down 3-1 after five innings. Duston Strom plated Zach Wilson as Mont Alto led 3-2 after six innings. 

 

Garlin ended any hopes of a comeback in the top of the seventh, retiring three of the four batters faced and earning his second win on the season.

Game Two: Penn State Mont Alto 9, Penn State Greater Allegheny 4

 

Jared Pine paced Mont Alto in the second game of the doubleheader, leading off the game with a double and providing key insurance runs with a grand slam to right field in the bottom of the fifth inning. Trystan Housman went five innings, striking out three batters and picking up his fifth win of the season. 

 

Following his double in the first inning, Pine later scored on a passed ball putting Mont Alto up 1-0 early. Duston Strom tied the game in the top of the third inning on a double to left field. Blake Orndorff and Connor Orner each recorded RBI base hits in the home half of the fourth inning to push the lead to 5-1. Greater Allegheny battled back in the top of the fifth, scoring three runs on one hit and two Mont Alto miscues. 

 

Tyler Moreland walked to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning. Matt Boyer reached on an error and Braden Zeger recorded a hit to load the bases. Jared Pine would clear the bases on a grand slam home run to right center field, pushing Mont Alto in front 9-4. 

 

Luke Davis pitched in the sixth and Luke Michaels in the seventh, each preserving the lead to extend the Mont Alto winning streak to double-digits at 10 wins.
