Mont Alto drops two to GA

Game One: Penn State Greater Allegheny 4, Penn State Mont Alto 3 (F/8)

 

Penn State Mont Alto built a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning of game one and saw the lead squander as Greater Allegheny scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth and one in the eighth. 

 

Jared Pine reached on an error by pitcher Randy Limon to reach base to lead off the top of the fourth. Blake Orndorff followed that up with a one out walk. Caiden Smith plated Pine on a RBI double on the very next at-bat, giving Mont Alto a 1-0 lead. With two outs in the fourth inning, Gavin Kissel scored Orndorff and Smith with his RBI triple. Mont Alto led 3-0 after four innings.

 

Henry Dickmann recorded a one out base hit in the bottom of the sixth inning to start the late rally for GA. Following a pitching change, Vinnie Martin scored one on a RBI triple. Calvin Alexander scored Martin on his RBI base hit on the very next batter to trim the deficit to 3-2. Following two straight walks, Joe Schulte also walked and plated the tying run.

 

Mont Alto went 1-2-3 in the top of the eighth inning with the home team set to bat. Vinnie Martin led off the bottom of the eighth with a double from GA and Calvin Alexander scored Martin on the next at-bat with his RBI double as GA took game one by a final of 4-3.

Game Two: Penn State Greater Allegheny 3, Penn State Mont Alto 2


Mont Alto dropped game two of the doubleheader against Greater Allegheny in the final at-bat for the second time on Sunday as they fell to GA 3-2.

 

Jared Pine reached base in the top of third inning on a single with one out. He later advanced to second base via stolen base and scored as Michael Scott reached on an error as Mont Alto led 1-0 after the top of the third inning. Kyle Nolan hit a double with one out in the top of the fifth inning and later scored on a wild pitch to extend the Mont Alto lead to 2-0. 

 

Mont Alto lead 2-0 heading into the home half of the seventh inning. With one out, Calvin Alexander hit a double to bring the tying run to the plate. Crystian Edwards struck out and GA was now down to its final out. Cade Suddreth walked to put runners on first and second with two outs. Joe Schulte tied the game on the next at-bat with a 2 RBI single. Following a hit by pitch and a walk, Henry Dickmann provided the walk-off single as GA took the doubleheader with a 3-2 win in game two.
