Coach Kissel reaches milestone, Mont Alto completes sweep of Beaver

Game One: Penn State Mont Alto 13, Penn State Beaver 2 (F/5)

 

Trystan Housman picked up his sixth win of the season, moving to a perfect 6-0 after striking out 11 batters in four innings of work in game one. Jared Pine was also a home run away from the cycle as he went 3-4 with a double, triple and two stolen bases.

 

Michael Scott plated Pine on a sacrifice fly to get Mont Alto on the board early in the top of the first inning. Tyler Moreland later scored Brady Bigler on another sacrifice fly to go up 2-0. 

 

Pine recorded a triple for Mont Alto and later scored on a Bigler sacrifice fly in the second inning. Mont Alto would lead 4-0 after two innings. Following a 1-2-3 top half of the third inning, Mont Alto would open the score up with seven runs in the fourth inning. Bigler and Gavin Kissel each had RBI singles and Kyle McKeon and Jarrett Goodyear supplied back-to-back RBI doubles to extend the lead to 11-2. 

 

Jarrett Goodyear plated two more runs in the top of the fifth as he homered to score Michael Scott with no outs in the inning.

Following the 13-2 game one victory, Penn State Mont Alto Head Coach Shawn Kissel picked up the 100th victory in his collegiate coaching career. Kissel is in his fifth season at Mont Alto and led his team to the 2022 PSUAC Championship and three USCAA National Tournament appearances.

 

Game Two: Penn State Mont Alto 13, Penn State Beaver 2 (F/6)

 

Jared Pine and Caiden Smith supplied back-to-back RBI doubles to put Mont Alto up early 2-0 after two innings. With Mont Alto leading 3-0 in the bottom of the third inning, Jericho Dela Cruz doubled, scoring two runs and trimming the deficit to 3-2. Pine led off the fourth inning with a single and later scored on a Blake Orndorff double to lead 4-2. 

 

Mont Alto broke the game open in the top half of the sixth inning when they scored nine runs on six hits. Blake Orndorff and Zane Mack each had RBI triples in the inning and Kyle Nolan recorded a RBI single.

 

Caiden Smith supplied the power in the top of the sixth inning with a home run, scoring Pine and Nolan and putting Mont Alto up 13-2. In the bottom of the sixth, Beaver got a few base runners on against reliever Blaine Wilson but couldn't extend the game to the seventh inning.
