Mont Alto battles back in game two to earn split with FCC

Game One: Frederick Community College 14, Penn State Mont Alto 0

 

FCC took control of game one from the start, plating one run in the top of the first inning and then six runs in the top of the second to build a 7-0 lead. Nick Keane led off the game with a home run down the left field line as FCC led 1-0. 

 

FCC scored six runs on seven hits and one Mont Alto error in the top of the second inning, including four RBI base hits. Daniel Herrera had the big hit in the inning, a RBI triple which scored Keane and Weston Roop. Aidan Masters and Aidan Greaney both recorded RBI hits in the top of the third inning as FCC scored four more runs to build a 11-0 advantage. 

 

Weston Roop hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth and Aidan Greaney hit a 2 RBI home run in the top of the fifth inning as FCC defeated Mont Alto in five innings by a final of 14-0. FCC starter Chris Durkin pitched four innings and struck out one as he remained a perfect 5-0 on the season. Mont Alto starter Tyler Moreland lasted 1.1 innings, giving up 11 hits and eight earned runs.

Game Two: Penn State Mont Alto 5, Frederick Community College 4

 

Jared Pine led off the bottom of the first for Mont Alto in game two with a single to left field, he later scored on a wild pitch from FCC starter Nate Farmer. Brady Bigler, who reached base via double following Pine's at-bat, scored the second run for Mont Alto in the first on Blake Orndorff's sacrifice fly to center field. Mont Alto led 2-0 after one inning of play.

 

FCC quickly responded and tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the second as Jaylon Robinson took a Caleb Cawthern offering to left field for a two run home run. Mont Alto regained the lead in the following inning as Caiden Smith reached via error and was later scored by Jarrett Goodyear as he recorded a RBI single through the right side.

 

Mont Alto would tack on two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as Jared Pine and Brady Bigler each drove in runs to push the lead to 5-2. FCC scored one run in each the top of the fifth and sixth innings to fight back to within one run. 

 

In the top of the seventh inning, Mont Alto Head Coach Shawn Kissel turned to Zach Garlin to earn his first save of the year. He did just that, retiring the heart of the order while only allowing a walk and preserving the 5-4 lead.
