Baseball bounces back in game two to take three of four from New Kensington

Game One: Penn State New Kensington 5, Penn State Mont Alto 3

 

Penn State New Kensington got to Mont Alto starter Zach Garlin early in game one as they scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and one more in the second inning to build a 4-0 lead. The first two batters reached via walk and Reise Matson was hit by pitch to load the bases with one out. Jake Wilson doubled to left field, scoring two runs and Tim Morris later scored Wilson on his RBI double.

 

Reise Matson scored Karter Weitzel on a RBI single in the bottom of the second inning to build the 4-0 lead.

 

Tyler Moreland scored Blake Orndorff in the top of the fourth to score Mont Alto's first run of the ball game. Caiden Smith would record a RBI single in the top of the fifth as Mont Alto trailed by two, 4-2. 

 

Nathanial Smith scored Gavin Kissel on a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning to trim the deficit to one run. New Kensington scored an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning as they would go on to take game one by a final of 5-3.

Game Two: Penn State Mont Alto 13, Penn State New Kensington 7

 

Game two featured plenty of big innings as Mont Alto scored 6+ two times and New Kensington scored six in the bottom of the third as Mont Alto hung on to win three of four against New Kensington by a final of 13-7.

 

Kyle McKeon, Jared Pine, and Michael Scott each recorded RBI base hits as Mont Alto scored six runs on four hits to build an early 6-0 advantage. New Kensington would answer that big inning in the third by tying the score at 6-6 following three innings. 

 

Braden Tristani, Jake Wilson and Jared Busche each recorded RBI hits in the bottom of the third inning. It wouldn't take long for Mont Alto to build another six run lead as they scored six runs on two hits in the inning. 

 

Brady Bigler, Caiden Smith, Michael Scott and Matt Boyer all plated in runs during the top of the fifth inning. 

 

New Kensington added on a run in the bottom of the fifth on a Jared Busche sacrifice fly. Mont Alto also tacked on one run in the top of the sixth inning when Caiden Smith scored Jared Pine to build a 13-7 lead.
