Late inning offense powers Mont Alto to non-conference win over Messiah

Mont Alto scored two runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings to pull ahead from Messiah University during Tuesday's non-conference matchup. Kyle Nolan earned his first win of the season by tossing five innings, striking out three batters and allowing only one earned run.

 

Messiah scored first in the bottom of the second inning as Evan Wagaman came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Thomas Zeigler following Wagaman's leadoff walk. Mont Alto quickly tied the game at 1-1 after Jared Pine scored following a failed pickoff attempt. The game remained scoreless until the top of the sixth inning when Mont Alto scored two runs on one hit and one error. 

 

Gavin Kissel had the big hit in the top of the sixth inning, scoring Michael Scott who was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning. Nathanial Smith layer recorded a RBI on a bunt attempt which plated Tyler Moreland.

 

Mont Alto added two more runs the following inning to take a 5-1 lead after six and a half, Jarrett Goodyear reached out an error, scoring Brady Bigler. On the next batter, Caiden Smith scored on a wild pitch. Messiah responded in the home half of the seventh inning, scoring two runs. The big hit in the inning was a RBI double to right center field by Evan Wagaman. 

 

Caleb Cawthern and Luke Davis shut down the Falcons out of the pen in relief of Kyle Nolan. Cawthern threw three innings, allowing four hits and Davis allowed one hit in his inning of work while picking up the save.
