Baseball hangs on to win final two regular season games

Game One: Penn State Mont Alto 13, Penn State Fayette 7

 

Penn State Mont Alto finished out its regular season on a high note, taking all four games from west division opponent Penn State Fayette. Jarrett Goodyear plated Brady Bigler to score the game's first run in game number one. Fayette took the lead in the bottom of the first inning, as Sawyer D'Andrea recorded a RBI hit and the other run scored on a Mont Alto error as Fayette led 2-1 after one inning of play.

 

Mont Alto would score four runs in the top of the third inning as Gavin Kissel and Tyler Moreland each recorded RBI hits. Mont Alto extended its advantage in the top of the fifth inning as they scored five runs on five hits. Gavin Kissel, Tyler Moreland, Brady Bigler and Caiden Smith each recorded run-producing hits in the fifth inning.

 

Mont Alto added on one more run in the sixth inning on a Tyler Moreland RBI groundout to take a 11-2 lead to the bottom of the sixth. Dylan Bohna helped Fayette trim into the deficit with a grand slam home run as Fayette trailed 11-7 after six innings. In the top of the seventh inning, Jonathan Lentvorsky homered to left field as Mont Alto pushed its lead to 12-7. They would tack on one more run in the inning as Mont Alto won game one by a final of 13-7.

Game Two: Penn State Mont Alto 9, Penn State Fayette 7

 

Fayette got on the board early in the first inning with three runs on three hits, capped off by an Ethan Rendulic triple which plated two runs. Mont Alto tied the game in the second inning  as Braden Zeger and Jared Pine both recorded RBI hits. Dylan Bohna would quickly retake the lead for Fayette on a RBI single to left field in the bottom half of the second. 

 

Mont Alto scored two runs off a Fayette miscue in the top of the fourth inning as they led 5-4 after four innings of play. 

 

In the top of the sixth inning, Mont Alto added four more runs to its lead as Jared Pine scored Braden Zeger on a RBI trople to right field. Brady Bigler scored Pine on the next at-bat with a ground ball to right field. Mont Alto led 9-4 after six. Penn State Fayette made things interesting with a comeback effort in the home half of the seventh inning, Sawyer D'Andrea hit a three run home run to left field to trim the deficit to 9-7. Kyle Nolan came on in relief of Caleb Cawthern with one out and was able to strike out the final two batters after hitting the first batter.
