Baseball drops PSUAC playoff opener to DuBois 2-1

PSUAC Baseball Tournament: Penn State DuBois 2, Penn State Mont Alto 1

 

Zach Garlin earned the start in the PSUAC Baseball Playoff Opener against Penn State DuBois on Saturday afternoon. A DuBois run in the top of the fifth inning was the winner, as DuBois held on to win by a final of 2-1.

 

Penn State DuBois scored first in the game on a hit by pitch RBI by Tyler Yough. Mont Alto would quickly tie the contest in the following inning when Jarrett Goodyear scored Jared Pine on a RBI single. 

 

Brett Beith recorded a single to lead off the top of the fifth inning and later advanced into scoring position on a wild pitch. He would advance to third when Bryce Dobson singled. Beith would end up scoring the eventual game-winning run on a fielder's choice.

 

Mont Alto wouldn't go down without a fight, however as Jared Pine reached base with two outs. Penn State DuBois catcher Grant Lilliard would throw out Pine pitches later as he tried to steal second base.
