Pine, Housman lead PSUAC baseball awards. Kissel named Coach of the Year

On Thursday afternoon, the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference released its end-of-season awards for baseball. Mont Alto had the West Division Player of the Year, West Division Pitcher of the Year, five first team members and two honorable mentions. 

 

Penn State Mont Alto's shortstop Jared Pine was named the West Division Player of the Year following his outstanding season in which he led the conference in batting average and stolen bases. Pine also ranked third in the conference in runs batted in (34) and second in slugging percentage (.662).

 

Mont Alto starting pitcher Trystan Housman was named the West Division Pitcher of the Year following a perfect 7-0 regular season. His seven wins were a conference best along with 59 strikeouts. His earned run average also ranked amongst the top ten in qualified pitchers with 3.24.

Mont Alto Head Coach Shawn Kissel was named PSUAC Coach of the Year following a 29-11 regular season in which the team won the regular season West Division title with a conference record of 17-3. 

 

FIRST TEAM

Pine and Housman were joined on the first team by center fielder Brady Bigler, first baseman Jarrett Goodyear and starting pitcher Zach Garlin

 

HONORABLE MENTION

Third baseman Blake Orndorff and utility Caiden Smith each earned honorable mention for their performance during the 2023 season.

 

Blaine Wilson received the John Fritz Sportsmanship Award. Named after former PSUAC Commissioner John Fritz, the sportsmanship award is given to one player from each team in the league who best displays the core values of the league and sportsmanship to teammates and opponents throughout the season.

 

 

Penn State Mont Alto will take on Penn State York on Sunday at 11 a.m. in the PSUAC Playoffs. The game will take place at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park in State College, Pennsylvania.
