Mont Alto season ends in loss to Miami-Hamilton

USCAA Small College World Series: Miami-Hamilton 16, Penn State Mont Alto 9 

 

Penn State Mont Alto saw its 2023 season come to an end Thursday afternoon at Showers Field as they fell to top-seeded Miami-Hamilton by a final of 16-9. Mont Alto finishes the season with a 31-15 overall record.

 

Following a Brady Bigler two-run home run in the top of the first inning, Miami-Hamilton responded with an offensive outburst. The Harriers went on to score six runs off four home runs in the bottom of the first inning. Stephen Stigler, Daulton Miller, Kaden Kimbrell and Thomas Boster each went yard in the inning. Mont Alto would battle back in the top of the second inning as they scored five runs in the top of the second inning to take a 7-6 lead. Jared Pine, Brady Bigler and Blake Orndorff each had RBI doubles in the top of the second inning for Mont Alto. 

 

Miami-Hamilton answered the Mont Alto top of the second inning offense with three more home runs in the bottom of the inning as Joe Requarth, Chris Hoffman and Daulton Miller each hit a home run in the inning as Miami-Hamilton built a 9-7 lead after two innings of play.

 

Miller plated two more on a RBI hit to extend the Miami-Hamilton lead to 11-7 after four innings. The Harriers would extend the lead in the fifth inning on a Hoffman walk and a Miller base hit up the middle. 

 

Caiden Smith scored Brady Bigler on a RBI to right field to trim the deficit to 14-8 and Jarrett Goodyear followed that up with a RBI double as Mont Alto trailed 14-9.

 

Miami-Hamilton would add on two more runs in the home half of the sixth as Miller recorded his fifth hit and seventh and eighth RBI's of the day as he drove in two more runs to push the lead to 16-9. Tyler Moreland walked with one out in the top of the seventh inning as Mont Alto lost to Miami-Hamilton by a final of 16-9.
