Baseball splits opening series with Brandywine

Penn State Mont Alto 12, Penn State Brandywine 1 

 

Penn State Mont Alto kicked off their preseason by traveling to Penn State Brandywine for a double header. Mont Alto would come out hot in the first game and end up winning 12-1 over Brandywine in the first matchup of the season.

 

Mont Alto would start out hot and stay that way this game. In the top of the first, Carter Fogal would single to left- center and James Sibert would score from second base, making Mont Alto's lead 1-0 early on. In the top of the second inning, Brady Bigler would reach on a fielders choice and Nicholas Leckert would score, making the score 2-0 Mont Alto.

 

In the top of the third inning, singles from Nicholas Leckert and Gavin Kissel would each score one run. Mont Alto wouldn't stop there as Brady Bigler would triple to right center, scoring two on the hit. In the bottom of the inning, a double down the left field line would score Brandywine's lone run for the game.

 

Wyatt Kissel would single in the fourth inning and one run would score. Later in the same inning, Cameron Bailey doubles down the left field line and one run would score making the score 8-1 in favor of Mont Alto.

 

Mont Alto would add three more runs in the top of the fifth inning and then one more in the top of the sixth inning making the final score of game one 12-1 in Mont Alto's first game of the season.

Penn State Brandywine 12, Penn State Mont Alto 11 

 

Penn State Mont Alto kicked off their preseason by traveling to Penn State Brandywine for a double header. In the second game of the doubleheader, Mont Alto would come out hot again but Brandywine would make a late push and would end up winning 12-11 in the eight inning over Mont Alto.

 

Mont Alto would start early in the top of the first inning with an RBI double from Wyatt Kissel. Cameron Bailey would also single, and Wyatt Kissel would score on a throwing error. Garret Rosenberry would triple to right-center, scoring one, making Mont Alto's lead 3-0. In the second inning, Garrett Worth hit a solo home run making Mont Alto's lead 4-0.

 

In the top of the third inning, Cameron Bailey singles to center field and one run would score. In the fourth John Copenhaver would double to left center scoring two runs on the play. Braden Zeger would single up the middle in the fifth inning scoring one. Braden Zeger would then score on a throwing error from third base. Brady Bigler and Garrett Worth would each score on a throwing error by third base making Mont Alto's lead 10-0.

 

In the bottom of the sixth, Owen Lawton would score unearned on a ground out to short stop.

 

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Brandywine would score 9 straight runs and tie the game up at 11-11. Nate Turner would double to left field scoring two. Two more singles from Brandywine, a wild pitch and a hit batter all contributed to their success in the inning. In the bottom of the eight inning, Jamey Massung would single up the middle and drive in the winning run as Brandywine wins 12-11 over Mont Alto.
